Serena Williams Wins Her First Post-Baby Grand Slam Match

On Tuesday, May 29th, Serena Williams made her return to Grand Slam tennis at the French Open in Paris.

The 36-year-old sports icon gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. at the beginning of September around the time of the 2017 US Open. It’s been a tough road to recovery since childbirth for Williams, but she has proved her undying athleticism at the Roland Garros with her victory against Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7/4), 6-4–her first since the 2017 Australian Open.

Not only did she achieve the Grand Slam, she did it in this “catsuit” that was as much of a necessity to her health as it was a fashion statement. Williams suffered from postpartum blood clotting last year, and the design and compression fabric of the suit was ideal to allow for good circulation.

The tennis superstar told reporters, “It feels like this suit represents all the women that have been through a lot mentally, physically with their body to come back and have confidence and to believe in themselves.”
