Willow Smith Opens up About Her past Self Harm to Her Mother on ‘Red Table Talk’

In Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook series, Red Table Talk, her daughter, Willow Smith, revealed that she used to self harm in the past.

Jada’s new talk show opens up many raw conversations on a range of topics from body image to motherhood. Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Jones, Jada’s mother, join in on every discussion, which acts as both a family bonding experience and as a catalyst for increased discourse regarding these often swept under the rug subjects.

In one of the most recent episodes, these three generations of women talk about surviving loss and the good and bad that come along with. Jada starts off by talking about the immense loss of personal friends at a young age and how big of an impact that these losses had on her life. Willow adds to the discussion by claiming that not only do individuals experience loss of friends and family, but the loss of themselves.

The young “Whip My Hair” singer revealed to her mom for the first time that after the fame of her hit single died down, she was left with feelings of uselessness and emptiness that she hid with a brave face. She went on to say that these deep emotions led her to cut herself for a period of time. Since then, Willow has said she has moved on and grown from the experience, however, her mother and grandmother were completely shocked by this part of her past because they said that they had no idea whatsoever.
