Reports are out that Gyllenhaal will be cast as one of Spider-Man’s antagonists in the upcoming film.

It’s already been confirmed that Tom Holland will return to his role of Peter Parker, as will Michael Keaton to his character the Vulture, but what is still in negotiation is a role for Gyllenhaal as Spidey’s nemesis Mysterio.

Though Mysterio is commonly depicted as a green man in a purple cape with a fishbowl for a head, he is actually one of Spider-Man’s most threatening foes. His most well-known alter-ego is that of Quentin Beck, an illusionist who has focused his skills on becoming an evil supervillain and countering Spider-Man’s abilities with the gadgets he invents.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will again be directed by Jon Watts and the screenplay will still be written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, though plot details are still unavailable. Marvel and Sony, who are are co-producing the movie, are allegedly searching for both a new female and male lead. They also want this male lead to be played by an A-list actor, so we can only hope that the Stronger star will take them up on it.
