Lena Waithe Will Receive MTV Movie & TV’s Trailblazer Award

Lena Waithe is set to receive the Trailblazer Award at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards for making some groundbreaking history.

Lena Waithe is a jack of all trades as she has been an actor for Ready Player One, a writer in Master of None, and creator and producer for The Chi. Not only that, but Waithe has partnered with The Black List to mentor writers.

The award is meant to honor inspiring, boundary-pushing individuals in the entertainment industry. “Her unwavering passion for equality and inclusion make her the perfect recipient for this year’s Trailblazer Award,” says MTV, VH1, and Logo General Manager Amy Doyle.

This isn’t the first time Waithe has been recognized for her work as she was also the first woman of color to win an Emmy for comedy writing in Master of None.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards will air June 18th with Tiffany Haddish hosting the show in Los Angeles.
