The singer discusses songwriting, the Manchester tragedy, and finding happiness.

Influential publication Time Magazine has named Ariana Grande one of its Next Generation Leaders, a franchise that, since 2014, “has featured more than 60 young people who are blazing new trails in politics, entertainment, fashion, science, sports and more”. Grande thanked Time for the honor on social media and posted a picture of the dreamy cover, shot by photographer Jimmy Marble.

The accompanying article details Grande’s childhood dreams (which she is living out today through her music career), and the anxiety that she struggled with in the past. Her manager Scooter Braun contributed to the piece, detailing the personal and professional aftermath of the Manchester concert bombing last May; he revealed that Grande initially believed she may never be able to perform her songs again.

Although the tragedy still weighs “heavy on [her] heart”, Grande believes in the power of positivity. In fact, this conviction is what led her to the title for her forthcoming album, Sweetener. She hopes it provides a constructive message to her fans: “When you’re handed a challenge, instead of sitting there and complaining about it, why not try to make something beautiful?”.

Ariana Grande Is Ready to Be Happy

Ariana Grande is happy, and it’s important to her that people know that. Still, it would be hard to miss her happiness on this sunny spring day at a ramshackle house in Beverly Hills.
