Kristen Stewart made the power move of whipping her heels off on the red carpet of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

On Monday, May 14th, the Twilight actress posed for pictures in her black Christian Louboutin stilettos only to remove and carry them in-hand once the photographers got their shots. She was then on her way down the remainder of the carpet, off to the screening of Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.

A jury member of this year’s festival, Stewart has refused to comment on whether or not the act was one in protest of the rule that women in attendance may not deviate from heeled shoes. However, she did speak out to Vanity Fair at the 2016 festival in regard to the restrictive dress code when she made the transition from flats to pumps for the red carpet premiere in the evening.

“I thought the heels looked better with the dress and that flats look better with a skirt, and they’re easier to wear for several hours,” she clarified, then added, “It’s just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking [a man]. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels.”

Whether or not the 28-year-old star was truly making a statement, she has certainly made a fair point.
