After just one season, the Lucy Hale-fronted dramedy will end.

On May 8th, Lucy Hale took to her social media accounts to post a heartfelt message announcing the cancellation of her show Life Sentence. The show, which premiered in early 2018, follows Stella (Hale), a terminal cancer patient who has been living like she was dying for the past eight years. In the pilot episode, Stella learns that she has been cured, and the first season follows her as she deals with the consequences of her rash decisions.

The show’s cancellation came as a surprise to the star, who wrote about feeling “shell-shocked”, but ultimately proud of how the show turned out. There are still three episodes left of season one, with the finale premiering on May 25th. Life Sentence fans can catch the remainder of the series Fridays on the CW.
