Paramore Performs “Rose-Colored Boy” on The Late Show

Paramore performed their latest single “Rose-Colored Boy” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday’s May 1st show.

The performance begins with a nervous looking Hayley Williams. You can see her eyes darting around with confusion while singing the first verse of the song. The singer becomes stronger and more theatrical as the performance continues. The rest of Paramore plays with a high-energy throughout the song, along with sporting 1980’s outfits to match their latest album’s, After Laughter, aesthetic.  The combination shows off the band’s vibrant, dynamic sound.

The whole performance is a view into what After Laughter speaks to. The band’s fifth album veers away from their past pop-punk sound and crashes right into something a bit more “bouncy”. The band fills the songs with pop hooks and 80’s beats, but underneath the fun lies lyrics that point to sadness, insecurity, and confusion, speaking to the idea that depression can be sunny on the outside, but dark on the inside.

Paramore’s After Laughter was released in May 2017. The band is currently on their After Laughter world tour with Foster the People. You can watch the Late Show performance below.
