There is a New Baby in The Senate And it is a Step in The Right Direction

Tammy Duckworth is a U.S democratic Senator from Illinois and is also the first U.S senator to give birth in office.

There was never an official maternity leave policy for senators put in place. In fact, children are not allowed on the Senate floor at all. This proved difficult for Tammy because she gave birth around the time of voting in the Senate. Voting involves long hours of going over what needs to be voted on which makes maternity leave, not an option. The policy was changed and it shows a giant step forward into the 21st century and how we handle working mothers in any job setting. The law now allows senators to bring their children onto the floor until the age of 1.

Tammy posted a picture of her babies first outfit for her first day in Senate and it was adorable.

Tammy also thanked her colleagues for passing the new rule to allow her to be a working mother in the Senate. This is an amazing step in the right direction for women everywhere.
