Jhene Aiko’s New Music Video Is About Relationships

(Instagram)

Normally when you create a music video for a new song there is just one video.

Jhene Aiko has two music videos for the song, “Never Call Me.” This new song is off of her new album Trip. The song is about moving on from a toxic relationship. The two videos show two different takes on moving on from the relationship. The first video is called “Slauson Hills Edition” and is based in L.A. where it seems like it is all sunshine and rainbows where she says to her ex that she was way too good for him.

The second video puts a metaphorical twist on moving on. Jhene portrays herself as the Japanese Shinto Goddess of creation and death. In this video, she literally has a funeral for her ex’s ego. Yes, you read that correctly.

Jhene Aiko told Refinery29 the reason for the video, “The funeral is for a man I knew personally. A man who lost his way. This funeral is the funeral for his ego. In this visual, I portray the goddess of creation and death, coming to collect his poor spirit and set it free.” Her song is very moving and shows there are layers to her with two videos.
