Interview: Alli Simpson on Her Life, Career + Her Latest Single, “Material Boy”

(Glenn Nutley)

Glitter Magazine loves Alli to bits.

She may be Cody Simpson’s little sister, but make no mistake, this girl is going places all on her own. That being said, Cody is her best friend and he’s always giving her advice on how to bring out her true self in her songs, which are amazing! We love her new single, “Material Boy,” and know you’ll love it too!

GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?

ALLI: I’d like to say my sound is pure “Alli”. I’ve spent hours upon hours in the studio diving in and working with many talented producers and writers, and over time I’ve seemed to slot myself right into my own lane with my sound. It’s straight vibey pop. I think it’s chic, alluring & connected.

GLITTER: What does being an artist mean to you?

ALLI: Being an artist is really a special way of expressing yourself. Whether you’re a music artist, or an artist in any other form… I think it’s extremely special to find what you’re passionate about and allow yourself to tell your story & your truths through your creations.

GLITTER: What can you tell us about your latest single, “Material Boy?” Was it a homage to Madonna’s “Material Girl?”

ALLI: “Material Boy!” One of the first songs I’d ever written. So purely from that alone it’s always going to be one of my special ones. Creating this song was an absolute blast I’d had the ‘Material Boy’ idea lingering in my head for a while & was able to sit in the room with some creators that totally vibed with it… and we came out with a banger!!  As goes for Madonna I’ve always been a fan of hers & looked up to her for inspiration, so yeah I’ll always pay homage to the queen!!
