Katy Perry Had a Surprise Performance for Montecito Mudslide Survivors

(Olivia Bee)

Katy Perry grew up in Santa Barbara, which is very close to where the dangerous mudslide happened.

On Sunday Katy Perry surprised everyone by performing a set at a benefit for survivors and first responders of the deadly mudslide. Over 2,000 people crowded around while Katy Perry performed her set. According to the organizers of the benefit, almost 2 million dollars was raised. That money will go to the families and help rebuild what was destroyed by the mudslide.

“This means the world to me,” Perry told CNN. “This is where I flourish. My heart was broken by the tragedy, the mudslide. I’ll do anything to help this community.” She performed her hit “Firework” which she dedicated to Lauren Cantin who was pulled from the wreckage. She and her mom survived, her dad died, and her brother is still missing.

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi were also at the benefit. There was a great turnout for such a great cause that is going to help a lot of people and rebuild what was destroyed.
