DiCaprio’s foundation provides financial support to Amazon Frontlines, a nonprofit organization that plans to unite Amazonian tribes together in their fight to prevent timber and oil drilling in the rain forest.

According to Justin Winter, the executive director of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, “Amazon Frontlines is the real deal. This work is what urgent climate action at the community level is all about.” On the nonprofit’s website, you can find information on Amazonian tribal traditions, history, and culture.

Mitch Anderson, the founder and director of Amazon Frontlines, states, “Our team is living and working day-in and day-out in the western Amazon with frontline communities to support them in their struggles to defend their forests from the threats of oil, mining, logging, and poaching, and to build solutions to these threats, such as solar energy, clean water, and economic alternatives.”
