The Weeknd Controversy Over H&M Ad

The Weeknd recently expressed his anger against an article of clothing made by H&M via Twitter, and his decision to therefore no longer work with the company.

The Weeknd expressed that he was shocked to have been notified about a sweatshirt carried by H&M, with the text “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”. He explained how offensive this material was, and how he no longer will be working with the company because of this. To many fans, they were equally as shocked by the clothing item but also by the singer’s speaking out against the company that he’s worked with frequently in the past.

H&M has since put out an apology, including a promise to remove media and the product from their website. They explained that the company does not stand for such offensive speech and that it was a lapse in their process. We know one thing for sure- the world today needs more people like The Weeknd to take a stand and hold companies accountable. We hope this continues a trend away from hateful speech in 2018.
