Kesha Talks Mental Health During the Holidays
Kesha knows the right ways to cope with seasonal mental illness.
In doing a personal essay with TIME, Kesha describes how to deal with mental health in a positive away especially around the time of Christmas. She states to take time for yourself and not to make it as you’re being selfish, you’re helping yourself in whatever way you can by writing:
“Take a walk in nature. Talk to a friend you trust or a therapist. Sit out one of the holiday gatherings in favor of some personal time. Just do whatever helps you calm down and gives you a break from the stress. Download one of the many meditation apps for your phone. I particularly like “Calm” and “End Anxiety.”
Kesha also talks about not striving to please everyone you encounter this holiday season.
“Trying to spend all of your time pleasing everyone else is not only exhausting — it’s impossible. And you know what? If you take a little time for yourself, you will actually be much better company for those around you.”
What do you think of Kesha’s holiday advice?
My name is Kelsey Comeaux, I’m currently a Senior at McNeese State University, majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in New Media. I’ve always had an interest in creative media arts as well as music (four years private piano lessons) and slightly self taught acoustic guitarist ;) I remember making movies on my dad’s “Windows Movie Maker” growing up and showing them to my friends and family. Building on emotion and presenting an important message through my projects was such a fulfilling experience. I hope to do that on a wider base one day.
Other than that, I love sports and am naturally a competitive spirit. I love to go running for fun, as weird as that sounds; it’s such a great release for me during stressful times. I also enjoy writing, short fiction is my expertise, as well as reading various novels mostly consisting of Science Fiction and Romance. Anything dealing with an adrenaline rush involving the outdoors I’m game for. I’m here to explore, love wildly, feel passionately, and have diligence deriving from the soul.
