Natural Hair to Grace Victoria Secret Fashion Show
This year is going to wow the audience.
The history of the Victoria Secret Fashion Show usually showcases beautiful women in the most luxurious and sexy lingerie, with their bodies, makeup and hair fitting the status-quo of what generalized sex-appeal is to the nation.
Though, this year, there was a change.
With models including Amilna Estevao, Maria Borges, and Jourdana Phillips taking over the Victoria Secret runway girls will get beautiful women to look up to that represents their natural culture.
During the 2017 show this year, there is an expectancy of the most diverse runway models than ever before. On the subject matter, model Jourdana Phillips also has expectations in representing a positive image through the brand by stating:
“I think now we’re understanding collectively as a society that there are whole, huge parts of the population that aren’t being catered to, that aren’t being marketed towards positively. I’m hoping there are girls who will be like, ‘Oh, that looks like me!”
What do you think of the diversity to be shown through this year’s VS show?
My name is Kelsey Comeaux, I’m currently a Senior at McNeese State University, majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in New Media. I’ve always had an interest in creative media arts as well as music (four years private piano lessons) and slightly self taught acoustic guitarist ;) I remember making movies on my dad’s “Windows Movie Maker” growing up and showing them to my friends and family. Building on emotion and presenting an important message through my projects was such a fulfilling experience. I hope to do that on a wider base one day.
Other than that, I love sports and am naturally a competitive spirit. I love to go running for fun, as weird as that sounds; it’s such a great release for me during stressful times. I also enjoy writing, short fiction is my expertise, as well as reading various novels mostly consisting of Science Fiction and Romance. Anything dealing with an adrenaline rush involving the outdoors I’m game for. I’m here to explore, love wildly, feel passionately, and have diligence deriving from the soul.
