Rihanna Has a Message for Brands That Use People as Marketing Tools

Instagram

Underrepresented people have a greater purpose than just as marketing tools according to RihRih.

If there is one thing we can count on Rihanna for that is to speak her mind as freely as she chooses and she did just that. While on Twitter, a fan tweeted her insisting she use transgender models for her next Fenty promotion and in response, Rihanna had a lot to say.

She started with acknowledging her work with previous transgendered models and where her position lies with the casting. She is not in control of these decisions, but she does feel there should not be a hidden agenda behind the casting.

“I don’t think it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a convenient marketing tool,” she stated. “Too often I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike. There’s always just that one spot in the campaign for the token ‘we look mad diverse’ girl/guy! It’s sad!” Rihanna continued. This was a powerful clap back and stated what current brands need to hear.
