Hip-Hop Star Says He Learned English from Youtube

Brian Imanuel, aka Rich Chigga, is a viral Vine star and hip-hop artist. He appeared on the hip-hop scene in early 2016 when he released his song “Dat $tick.” After the song dropped, the Indonesia rapper and the music video, went viral. The video features artists such as Desiigner, Tory Lanez, and Ghostface Killah, who were on the official remix to “Dat $tick” alongside Pouya.

Imanuel only came to the United States for the first time this past May. While he learns something new everyday he is here, it was not that big of a culture shock to him. Since learning to speak English, he has always dreamed of coming to that states.

He was homeschooled by his parents and by age 10 or 11, he became very lonely. He found an escape in the internet, especially YouTube. He would watch hours of videos. As he watched more, he realized he was slowly learning some English.

“One day, I was just thinking about something, and then — you know when you think and you have that inner voice in your head?” Imanuel told ABC News. “I realized it was in English.”

While his first language is Indonesian, he is still learning and practicing English anytime he can.
