Taylor Swift has had a bit of a rocky road in the press with the alt-right claiming her as an icon which she has yet to denounce. The ACLU has also slammed her with a letter, stating a blogger that Swift sent a cease and desist letter to, for stating she is linked to the alt-right, is protected under freedom of speech. Despite the bad press, her music is still breaking streaming records.
Today, Taylor Swift releases her sixth album, Reputation, which many feel already has diss lyrics towards Kanye West, after hearing her first track. Since Taylor announced the release date, many have given her the side eye for the date that was chosen, based on the album having what seems to many, as bold shots at Kanye. It’s the 10th anniversary of Kanye’s mother’s death. His mother, Donda West, died on November 10, 2007, following liposuction and breast-reduction surgery. Kanye Fans are honoring his mother, by streaming Hey Mama and tweeting memories of her using #HeyMamaDay.
This comes after Taylor’s long public hiatus after she was caught on tape saying that she didn’t know about Kanye’s Famous song and then had to struggle with the media attention when Kim Kardashian released the tape of Taylor listening to Kanye repeat controversial lyrics and Taylor stating that the song was a compliment and that she was happy Kanye told her about the song before he released it.

February 12th 2016 Kanye states publicly he spoke to Taylor about the line in the song before it was released. Swift’s rep said she did not talk to Kanye about the song and it’s misogynistic message. Ken Erlich, a Grammy producer said on recorded television that Taylor knew of the song, had heard a prerecorded track and she smirked when asked about it. He then retracted his statement.
February 13th 2016 Kanye said he was mad that SNL changed his stage for his performance without asking him and calls Taylor fake , not knowing he was on a hot mic.
February 15th 2016 Taylor gives speech at Grammys stating, “I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. April 9th 2016 On stage at the Paradise Festival, Kanye says the day he spoke the truth was the beginning of the end of his life and we know what day he is talking about.
June 16th 2016 Kim does an interview with GQ and mentions Taylor as stating, ‘Don’t ever let that footage come out of me saying that. Destroy it.’
July 27th 2016 Kim states on her show on E, that Taylor was in on the song. She said that Taylor said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, ‘The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’
July 27th 2016 Kim uses SnapChat to release the tape of Taylor on tape saying she knew about Kanye’s controversial lyrics. So, Taylor said she didn’t know about the song and the call never happened, but this tape proves that she was recited controversial parts of the song, knew about the song and spoke to him on the phone about it. She had told the media she never spoke to him.
