He has a better idea for these funds.

Chance the Rapper made an appearance at the Chicago City Council recently to give his stance on the newly proposed police academy. Currently, the city plans to spend 95 million dollars to build a new police academy in Garfield Park. Chance feels this unnecessary and made it his point to voice his frustrations. “Financially, this proposed plan doesn’t make sense. We don’t have $95 million. They’re just asking for $10 million today to purchase the land. But we don’t have the rest of the money to do it so, why let them go ahead with this right now? There’s a lot of different services that need to be funded.” Chance stated.

For the past year, Chance has been advocating for the funding of public schools and implementing more opportunities for the youth to progress. He donated one million dollars to Chicago public schools and has even implemented a system with Lyft to help generate some funds. His proposed amount is way lesser than the price of a police academy and in his opinion more beneficial.
