Carrie Underwood Became Emotional During Las Vegas Tribute at CMAs

The Country Music Awards were both a celebration of accomplishments in the country music industry, and a remembrance of lives lost over a month ago in Las Vegas.Underwood sang the song “Softly and Tenderly” during the “in memoriam” performance. Featured at the beginning were artists the country music community lost this year, and towards the end the 58 fans killed at the country music festival on October 1st in Vegas.

By the end of the somber hymn, Carrie was overcome with emotion.

“This has been a year marked by tragedy, impacting countless lives, including so many in our country music family. So tonight, we’re going to do what families do: come together, pray together, cry together, and sing together, too,” Underwood mentioned in an earlier monologue.

Underwood’s co-host, Brad Paisley, also added, “The way we see it, the best way to honor our fans is to play our music — loud and proud.” He closed his statement by mentioning that the lives lost that horrific evening would never be forgotten.
