Trump Seems to Believe This is Why Ed Gillespie Lost Virginia’s Governor Seat

You know Trump, Virginia was already a blue state and voted for Hillary Clinton in the last election, right? It seems that Trump actually believed that Republican candidate Ed Gillespie stood a chance against the newly elected Ralph Northam, had he only just aligned himself with the President.

While the comment seems comical to the masses, some republicans believe this is why Gillespie lost. If one looks at the final tallies, Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate Jill Vogel had over 40,000 more votes than Gillespie did, even though Republicans did lose the three major positions being voted for in Tuesday’s election. One twitter user wrote, “Lt. Gov candidate Jill Vogel embraced Trump, and her vote share beats @EdWGillespie by several pts. Failure to (truly) embrace Trump is the story of Ed’s failure in VA.”

Trump’s comment also comes across as a bit hypocritical, as he sent out a robocall before the election saying that, “Ed would make America great again,” using his own famous campaign slogan.

Democrats gained 14 seats in the House of Delegates in Virginia as well, many referring to their party’s success in the polls as a “blue wave.” They now hold a 48- 47 majority over the Republicans.
