The ACLU Sends Message to Taylor Swift

California blogger Meghan Herring wrote a post for Popfront that theorized that the country singer turned pop princess is associated with the alt- right movement.Talking about Swift’s hit “Look What You Made Me Do,” “many on the alt-right see the song as part of a “re-awakening,” in line with Trump’s rise. At one point in the accompanying music video, Taylor lords over an army of models from a podium, akin to what Hitler had in Nazis Germany. The similarities are uncanny and unsettling.”

Taylor’s attorney sent a cease and desist to Herring, and asked the website to remove the post. “Ms. Swift has no obligation to campaign for any particular political candidate or broadcast her political views, and the fact that her political views are not public enough for your taste does not give you the authority to presume what her political opinions may be,” the letter stated.

Now, the ACLU is taking a swing at the star, stating that Swift’s lawyer’s actions are a, “completely unsupported attempt to suppress constitutionally protected speech.” The ACLU, who is representing the blogger, said she has the right to discuss current political events, along with voicing her “critical interpretations” of Swift’s work.

What did you think of the blog post? Did Meghan go too far, or is Taylor being too sensitive?
