Danica Roem Named First Trangender Legislator

Virginia is upping the stakes of diversity.

Twenty-six year old Danica Roem has officially made history by being named the very first transgender Legislator in the nation. The democratic winner was up against very conservative republican Bob Marshall who promoted Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban as well as wanted to completely banish the trans-bathroom bill. During the campaign, Marshall slandered Danica on numerous occasions, at one point calling her “a guy who think he’s a girl who wears a dress.”

Winning by a close majority of 53.4% of the vote, this win marks a memorable stature in political viewpoints. Working as the lead reporter for the Gainesville Times and the Prince William Times, she excelled at her position winning seven awards over the nine years working there by the Virginia Press Association.

The win comes as a shock for many republicans as Bob Marshall has served a twenty-five year term with the state legislature. Danica’s main concern when she takes office in 2018? Fixing the roadways without increasing taxes.

What do you think of Danica Roem’s historical win?
