Selena Gomez Speaks Out About Her Kidney Transplant

Selena and her friend/donor Francia Raisa sat down with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie to discuss the life changing event. The singer was diagnosed with lupus, an immune system disorder that attacks one’s tissue and organs, back in 2015.

The need for a kidney transplant was caused by her condition, but unfortunately no one in Gomez’s family was a viable match. Talking about Francia and the need for a donor, Selena told Guthrie, “I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life … and she volunteered and did it.”

Selena has known the former “The Secret Life on an American Teenager” actress for eight years now. They often refer to one another as sisters, which made Raisa’s decision a no brainer. “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process,” Francia wrote in her Instagram post matching Selena’s.

The pair’s exclusive interview will air on “Today Show” Monday Morning.
