Halsey: AMAs Don’t Have Enough Women Nominees

How many women are nominated for an AMA? Not enough according to singer Halsey.

While the singer was thrilled to have two nominations, one for Favorite Song and the other for Favorite Collaboration with the Chainsmokers on the song “Closer,” she was also dissatisfied over how little representation there was for women nominees for the AMAs. Halsey took to Twitter to express her disappointment. “Really honored to have received an @AMAs nomination but really disappointed to hear near exclusively male names… such a missed opportunity.” She continued: “so many incredible female artists have released this year. hoping the coming award shows give them the credit that is due to them.”

Halsey does make a really good point as only 12 women out of 82 people are nominated for an award. This fact is leaving several people stunned as there are plenty of women who could have easily been nominated for an award.

Women such as Katy Perry, SZA, Kehlani, Cardi B and Demi Lovato are just some examples of women that could have been nominated for an award as they work just as hard as the other male nominees.  As one fan notes,”The #AMAs need to check themselves Women have to work twice as hard in this industry to survive Give them the recognition they deserve”.

Hopefully the AMAs doesn’t become the American Male Awards next year.
