‘Newness’ is a Millennial Must-See

“Newness” is the latest film by director Drake Doremus, starring Nicholas Hoult (“Warm Bodies”) and Spanish actress Laia Costa.

The steamy film tackles the complications of dating in a generation with social media along with hookup culture. You follow the two stars of the film on their journey of figuring out who they are together as a couple, while also playing around with the idea of an open relationship.

The concept is very similar to Doremus’ earlier film, “Like Crazy,” which starred the late Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence. The film focused on a long distance relationship that dealt with the complications of visas and legalities keeping the two characters away from one another.

“Newness” was shown January of this year at Sundance, after barely meeting the deadline for the film festival. From the beginning of filming to the final edit, Doremus was able to pull off the film’s entire production in 100 days.

In an interview with No Film School, Doremus described “Newness” as one of those, “under-the-radar movies that are really personal—not a production, essentially. They’re just people in a room and they’re intimate.”

The film is set to be released on Netflix, though a date has not been given by the streaming service yet. With this trailer being recently released, we can imagine its release date being in the near future.
