Breast Cancer Awareness Month is Still Going Strong

While October brings fall and Halloween, for many it brings Breast Cancer Awareness.

Breast Cancer is something that runs commonly with women but can also be found in men since they also have breast tissue. Starting as early as our 20s do some women start to get mammograms and self-examinations to check and see if something foreign has grown or how far along the cancer may be. While the cancer in your breast doesn’t kill you, the disease does become deadly when it metastasizes and ends up spreading to other organs or the bones. To try and combat this, many women have had their breasts surgically removed which might make them feel like less of a women. Many women do end up getting implants and tattoos to mimic what they were born with.

While many think there is one type of breast cancer, there are actually several types. They are all caused and treated differently. While they’re commonly started in the breasts, they can also originate in organs, tissues and milk ducts. Breast Cancer can also run in the family. For example, if your mother and aunts all had Breast Cancer, it’s likely that you are at risk of having it too which is why testing and mammograms are really important. There are several different organizations that help raise money and bring awareness to Breast Cancer. The most popular organizations are Susan G. Komen and National Breast Cancer.  Both have helped raise thousands of dollars to help find a cure for Breast Cancer as late stages of this disease do end in death.
