The MLB is Starting a New Diversity Fellowship Program

This program will aim to include more women and people of color in offices.

The Major League Baseball fellowship program will select 20 candidates. Three of them will be placed with the sports central office while the remainder will be placed with teams. Having a low percentage of minorities, this program is designed specifically for people of color and women. They are searching for people of all majors with a wide knowledge of baseball. Recipients will make an 18-month to 24-month commitment where they get real-world experience and get a jump start to their career.

The league is trying to change its reputation as being a less inclusive organization and it is taking the first step to recruit. Baseball is normally seen as one of the less diverse sports and not as welcoming to minorities. Vice president Renee Tirado’s end goal for the league is, “…to have a legitimate pool of women and people of color who are on track to be future leaders of baseball.”

This is a great opportunity for those who thought it was not possible to have a career in the baseball industry. The MLB is taking a huge step with this program.
