Cam Owns His Mistake With a Sincere Apology to Women + Girls

Cam Newton gets slammed by the press for a sexist comment made toward a female journalist Wednesday.

Update:

Cam issued another apology to the reporter, women, and girls in a recent statement. At the first

“After careful thought, I understand that my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful to women. To be honest, that wasn’t my intention. If you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you.”

This part sounded a bit scripted until he paused and seemed to speak from his heart. He continued his statement to say:

“I’m a man who tries to be a positive role model in my community and use my platform to inspire others. I take ownership to everything that comes with that, and what I did was extremely unacceptable.

I’m a father to two beautiful daughters, and at their age I try to instill in them that they can do and be anything that they want to be. During this whole process, I’ve already lost sponsors and countless fans, and I realize that the joke is really on me. I’ve learned a valuable lesson from this. To the young people who see this, I hope that you learn something from this, as well. Don’t be like me. Be better than me.

To the reporters, to the journalists, to the moms, the super-moms, to the daughters, the sisters, and women all around the world, I sincerely apologize and hope that you can find the kindness in your heart to forgive me.”

He stated that his intention was not to harm females, especially because he has a daughter whom he would never want to be treated as lesser.

He has learned his lesson especially after losing sponsors and fans. This was a learning experience for him and he hopes the same goes for his fans; especially when he said “Don’t be like me. Be better than me.” He has learned from his mistake and he is trying to right his wrong.

Cam Newton apologizes for comments about female reporter | ESPN

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton posted an apology video to Twitter a day after making comments about a female reporter.

—————–

Panther’s quarterback Cam Newton was speaking during a press conference Wednesday when a female sports journalist Jourdan Rodrigue asked about improved playing techniques. Concerning route-running enhancements with starting receivers Devin Funchess and Kelvin Benjamin, Rodrigue simply asked why his coordination has improved. Newton smirked mid-sentence and shortly replied after how funny it was to hear a female talk about routes.

Though the crowd went silent for a couple of seconds Newton carried on with his explanation stating how much Funchess is dedicated to the sport and how much he wants to win against the Detroit Lions since he’s from the famous city. He also dedicated the receiver game play improvements on coaching on how preparation for the season has been different this year because of it.

According to Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler, Rodrigue approached Newton after the press conference and inquired if he actually thought women knew nothing about routes or football in general. Newton responded that he should have said “reporters” instead of “females” and assumed when watching the game, most people tend to just see if a receiver is open not the specific coordination associated with routes. Newton has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
