Rock Legend Tom Petty Has Passed Away

The leading man of “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers” was only 66 years old.

The rocker was found early Monday morning in his Malibu home, unresponsive after going into cardiac arrest. He was taken to UCLA medical center where he could not be revived is what the official statement from his longtime manager, posted to Petty’s social media handles, stated.

“He died peacefully at 8:40 PM PST surrounded by family, his bandmates, and friends,” is how the manager closed out the post.

Petty’s last official post of his own on Twitter was a video thanking his fans for their support over the last 40 years for his band. Their anniversary tour ended on September 25th at the Hollywood Bowl.

There were questions earlier yesterday over Petty’s condition. A news outlet reported that the rocker was dead after a tabloid had mentioned his critical condition yesterday morning. However, they backed out of that claim after the LAPD announced it had no confirmation of Petty’s death. This led to a flurry of confusion as reports were still saying that he had passed hours after that LAPD statement. Petty’s daughter, Annakim Violette, took to her Instagram to lash out at Rolling Stone, writing, “ How dare you report that my father has died just to get press because your articles and photos are so dated.” She posted a string of photos after his death, and confirmed his passing.

I love you my angel 💜
