VOICE

Support Breast Cancer Awareness With This Honest Documentary, Pink Ribbons, Inc.

Regardless of our differences and disagreements, October is a time for unity and strength throughout this country because of breast cancer awareness.Throughout the entire month, many brands and companies get behind the cause and show their support for survivors, those still struggling with the disease, and their families.

While it is great to get out and show our support for these women through our purchases and donations, it is oh so important to make sure that we know where our donations are going and what they truly represent.

There is no better time to watch the 2011 documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc. Not only does the documentary speak to those that were currently in the final stages of breast cancer, but it shows their opinions on how they view the breast cancer awareness community and how it makes out the women like them.

PINK RIBBONS INC. – Official Trailer

Now available Educational DVD and Streaming. Contact edsales@firstrunfeatures.com. To screen the film in your community, contact stsales@firstrunfeatures.com. Now on iTunes and DVD: www.firstrunfeatures.com/pinkribbonsdvd The ubiquitous pink ribbons of breast cancer philanthropy – and the hand-in-hand marketing of brands and products associated with that philanthropy – permeates our culture, providing assurance that we are engaged in a successful battle against this insidious disease.

The film also takes a look at big corporations like Chevy and Susan G. Komen and how they are able to turn this terrible disease into a commodity of sorts. It discusses the history of the pink ribbon logo as well, which is quite shocking in itself.

If you want to make an informed decision on your support this October, I could not recommend a better starting point than this film. You can find the documentary on both ITunes and Amazon Video.

Do you already donate to a breast cancer charity or research group? If so, who are they and why did you choose them?
