Bill in Illinois Puts Abortion Rights Into Place

Governor Bill Rauner makes a controversial initiative with HB40.

Abortion rights for women have always been a sensitive topic directed at women and men alike. With the new bill entitled HB40, which protects Illinois against any Supreme court decisions and allows Medicaid to cover the procedure of an abortion, women now have the right to choose.

The Republican politicians seem to have always been pro-choice. “I personally believe a woman should have, must have, the right to decide what goes on in her own body. I also believe that no woman should be forced to make a different decision than another woman could make purely based on her income,” Rauner explained in a press conference. This bill decision will be the first in over twenty years. Medicaid is allowed to cover the procedure and it’s completely voluntary by the state of Illinois.

This bill, however, has been met with retaliation from those who are pro-life stating he signed onto it after promising to veto the initiative earlier. The bill is also met with controversy due to the funding coming from tax payers regardless of whether or not they support the bill.
