Princess Leia Received Her PhD When She Was Only 19
It turns out the iconic Princess Leia received her Ph.D. at the age of 19.
In the Star Wars series, not only does Princess Leia hold a Senate position in the Galactic Empire, but she also becomes a General. This means that on top of being one of the most badass warriors and politicians out there, she can also add being a doctor to the list.
So, yes, Princess Leia will always be so much more than the girl in the “space bikini.” According to Huffington Post, even director and creator of the Star Wars universe, George Lucas said:
“Leia is young, nineteen, the same age as what Luke was supposed to be, but instead of being kind of an idealistic naïve farm boy from the far reaches of the Netherlands, she’s also like a very sophisticated, urbanized ruler, a Senator, so she’s a politician, she’s accomplished, she’s graduated, got her PhD at nineteen, and she rules people and is in charge. I needed an actress who could be young and play with a lot of authority…and push these guys around.”
Talk about a character that so many young girls have looked up to since Princess Leia first hit the screen. But maybe instead of calling her princess we should start calling her Dr. Organa.
