MTV Has Renamed Their Moonman to Moonperson
Say goodbye to Moonman, and hello to Moonperson!
Things are changing at MTV. MTV is now changing categories at their award shows to making them nongendered specific. To keep in sync with this, MTV has decided to change the VMA trophy “Moonman” to a nongendered space traveler, also known as “Moonperson.”
MTV’s president Chris McCarthy said in an interview with the New York Times, “Why should it be a man? It could be a man, it could be a woman, it could be transgender, it could be nonconformist.”
From now on MTV’s Movie Awards and Video Music Awards will be rid of gendered categories.
Along with these changes, MTV is also creating a reality show “We Are They,” a show that focuses on young people who are gender nonconforming and in their coming-of-age moments.
