Here’s What The Tiny Hole Near Your iPhone Camera Actually Does

2017-07-16

You’re probably now staring at that tiny little hole right now, and wondering, what does this thing do?! Does it anti-red eye? Anti-blur? Give a little extra flash for a picture?

Well, the long-lasting secret has been revealed, and the results may surprise you. That little tiny hole is actually a teeny-tiny microphone. The small microphone is designed and positioned on the back of your iPhone to help improve the overall quality when using apps such as FaceTime.

The designers at Apple thought that people may hold their phone at an odd angle when showing people there “views,” so they added it to boost things up a little bit.

The microphone is on all iPhones since the 5S model, so it’s crazy that we’re just now discovering what it’s there for.
