Taraji P. Henson recently announced her big break, but not the kind you think.

It wasn’t a new movie or an extraordinary nominee, but rather she announced to her Instagram followers that she had undergone the “big chop” and joined the natural hair movement. Henson reshared an Instagram post from her hair stylist, Tymothe Wallace which said, “It’s not a trend it’s a movement and I’m using my voice to share #blackbeauty is LIT thanks @popsugar #tossedbytym.”

People of color are learning how to embrace their African roots through their hair. This movement is changing the narrative for many women of color as they start to accept their hair in its most natural form.

Through this movement, women of color are learning the meaning of self-love. And as a result of embracing and learning about their waves, curls, kinks, and coils and what it means to be a black woman, these women have gained the power and confidence necessary to showcase their talents fearlessly.

Thank you, Henson, for showing the world that all women and hair types are beautiful!
