Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns may not be in theaters until Christmas 2018, but we’ve got the inside scoop 18 months before the premiere.

Julia Roberts who won an Oscar for the originated role in 1964, has big shoes to fill. “I hope what we’re doing, and it certainly feels this way to me, is beautiful and profound and will be able to stand alone to the original,” Emily Blunt shares. “It’s a very nostalgic couple of words, isn’t it?”

Roberts talked to the director, Rob Marshall about the remake of the Disney classic, and Roberts couldn’t have been more excited for Blunt to hold the role. “This is Emily’s show. I want her to take this and run with it, because she will be brilliant,” Roberts shared with enthusiasm.

This sequel to the original Mary Poppins picks up 25 years after the first film, where Michael Banks is all grown up and living in his parents’ old house with his wife and three children. But after his wife’s sudden death, the whole family enters a state of grief, thus enters Mary Poppins, who then leads Michael’s children on a series of adventures.

Along-side Blunt in the star-studded cast is Colin Firth and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
