We’ve all grown to love her as Spencer from Pretty Little Liars, but this just adds to the list of reasons why we appreciate such an honest and refreshing actress like Troian Bellisario.

Her new film, Feed, has a beautiful and very personal inspiration behind it. Not only has she directed and wrote the upcoming film, but she will also be playing a central part in the cast as well.

The film is inspired by her long battle with anorexia, as well as her heartfelt desires in needing to raise awareness about eating disorders and mental health. In an interview with Interview Magazine, she revealed how difficult it was for her to revisit her personal struggles.

It wasn’t easy for her: “My neural pathways were all still there and connected to the disease, so when I had to engage with the film, it was like poking a sleeping dragon. But it’s amazing that you can have this huge, life-threatening thing be a part of you and still live inside of you, and almost tame it in a weird way.”

It’s astounding to see how much strength Bellisario has, and the ways in which she is using her platform as an artist to help others understand the stigma around eating disorders.
