Yara Shahidi Has A New Show Coming To Freeform

Yara Shahidi is moving on to college-ish!

Yara Shahidi is moving on to college and also from ABC to a sister channel. The Black-ish star will have her own spin-off of the series to be called “College-ish” which was picked up by Freeform. Yara plays the character of Zoey Johnson, daughter of Rainbow and Andre Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson) a former high school student now heading to college. Black-ish follows the entire Johnson family as they navigate their everyday life. The show touches on topics such as black rights, racism, prejudice, the LGBT community, police brutality and other current events.

According to the College-ish official Instagram account “The Black-ish spin-off, college-ish, follows the Johnson’s eldest daughter Zoey as she heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.” The second to last episode in Season 3 served as a backdoor pilot for the series as the primary focus of the story was Zoey going to orientation at her new school. The series received a 13 episode season and was ordered by Freeform on May 19th, 2017.
