Zoella Opens Up About Her Anxiety

This mental health month, more and more celebrities are speaking out about their mental health than ever before, and Zoella is just one attempting to expand the conversation and get rid of the taboo around discussing the matter. Beauty and lifestyle blogger and YouTuber Zoella has not shied away from her struggles, and she has before shared her experiences with her followers and viewers in blog posts and videos. However, the British 27-year-old has ventured into a previously untapped (literally) medium – her Instagram, home to her 11 million followers.

She explains how, just a few years prior, anxiety consumed the vast majority of her thoughts every day, and she was beginning to accept that there was nothing she could do about it. She then shared her decision to begin therapy, and that she is able to “do things now [she] never thought [she’d] be doing.”

Zoella, known as Zoe Sugg to her friends and family, points out that we need to take better care of our mental health: “As humans we always want to look our best. We look after our hair, nails, skin. We eat good food and work out. We spend time and money to feel good, yet not everyone takes that same time and care on the most important thing, our minds,” she writes.

Zoe urges her fans to take action about their mental health and that it can get better. She reminds them: “There will be mountains to climb and rivers to cross, but you can do it.”
