Kára McCollough – the Washington D.C. beauty, is Miss USA 2017

Kára McCullough is the new Miss USA 2017. The model was crowned on Sunday, May 14, 2017, in Las Vegas. She is the second beauty queen representing the District of Columbia to take home the crown in two consecutive years. In 2016, Deshauna Barber, also of the District of Columbia, took home the crown for Miss USA 2016 beating the other 51 contestants in the competition.

Kára McCullough is the ninth black woman to win the Miss USA pageant since the competition’s inception in 1952. Kára is 25 years of age and is a scientist at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. She is not only a beauty, but she also has brains. She is an HBCU college graduate from South Carolina State University. The Italian-born model is the ninth woman to be born outside of the US to win the competition. She will participate in the 2018 Miss Universe pageant representing the United States while vying for the crown.
