NYC’s “Fearless Girl”

What a great symbol for girls everywhere.

On March 8th New Yorker’s strolling in Bowling Green Park were greeted by a new statue of a young girl situated proudly in front of the iconic Wall Street Bull. This new figure, part of the “Fearless Girl” project, was put in place just in time for International Women’s Day! It was created by State Street Global Advisors an asset managing firm in collaboration with McCann New York, a top ad agency. The goal of this project was, according to ABC News, to spread the message “that more women should be appointed to the boards of the Russell 3000, a broad index of U.S. companies.” ABC News 10 states that, currently, just 16% of the board seats are occupied by women, and 25% of these companies have no women on their boards. Even State Street falls prey to these numbers, with only 3 women on their 11 board team. Obviously, women need to be more present on these boards and in all professional leadership positions, and perhaps this fearless girl will be a catalyst for some much needed change. To learn more about the “Fearless Girl” project, read this article from ABC News here and here.
