Join Cara Delevingne In The Lady Garden Campaign

screen-shot-2016-09-08-at-4-26-45-pmOver a third of women are too embarrassed to visit the doctor with gynecological concerns, and this needs to change.

Women’s health is too often stigmatized, and young girls are taught to be ashamed of natural processes such as periods. It is too often that young girls feel ashamed to admit that it’s “that time of the month.” There is nothing shameful about natural processes such as this, and it is time that women speak up for de-stigmatizing feminine care and health.

The UK-based Gynaecological Cancer Fund started the Lady Garden Campaign, which educates women about their bodies and helps women be in more in touch with their gynecological health to prevent cancer. Understanding how the female body works can greatly increase the ability to recognize potentially harmful abnormalities. Recent research has shown that over one third of women are too embarrassed to even visit the gynecologist! No woman should ever feel ashamed of her own body, and The Lady Garden campaign aims to empower women and combat these negative sentiments. With the hashtag #SilentNoMore, Cara Delevingne and other supporters are allowing women to speak openly about gynecological issues without any shyness or shame.

Gynecological cancers result in some of the worst results for women, and this could be simply because of delayed diagnosis. Often times, women do not visit the doctor until the symptoms have greatly progressed. Gynecological cancers have a mortality rate of 37%, and 57 women are diagnosed each day in the UK. The Lady Garden website has a link to the Gynaecological Cancer Fund that lists symptoms all women should be aware of and educated about. Early detection is the best form of protection from cancer.

It is extremely important that women do not feel ashamed of their bodies and have the confidence to openly speak about these issues. It is The Lady Garden Campaign’s goal to create a society in which women feel safe. If you have any questions or concerns about your gynecological health, do not be scared or embarrassed to phone a doctor! This meaningful campaign could save a person’s life, and we are so glad that Cara Delevingne has decided to be the face of it. Topshop is also supporting the cause, and 30% of The Lady Garden merch sold will go directly to the Gynecological Cancer Fund.

We have so much respect for causes like these that can help shape a better society each day. Although women gained equal suffrage in 1920, gender issues are still amongst the forefront of social issues today. All women deserve the freedom to be comfortable and confident in their bodies, which is why we started the Glitter Self Love Campaign. It is amazing to see strong women supporting each other and changing society for the better.
