GLITTER: For those who haven’t read your work yet, how would you describe your writing style?

SOPHIE: I can tell you what to expect in a Sophie Jordan book is emotion and romance and high stakes. Naturally, there will be kissing. Because every book is better with kissing in it. &#X1f609

GLITTER: How would you describe your writing style?

SOPHIE: I’d characterize my writing style as lush– only because I see the word often applied to my writing. &#X1f609 I suspect that this relates back to the emotion that I layer into my books. Oh, and did I mention kissing?

GLITTER: What is the main plot of Reign of Shadows?

SOPHIE: Reign of Shadows is an adventure-romance starring Luna and Fowler. Set in a dark (as in NO sunlight ever) world full of monsters and other dangers (as if monsters aren’t enough), Luna and Fowler have to battle these monsters, secrets of their pasts and a tyrant king … oh, and they might simultaneously be battling their own feelings for each other (cue kissing) — because falling in love is kind of inconvenient when every day is  a fight to survive. Love is a luxury and liability.

GLITTER: How would you describe your characters in Reign of Shadows? Who is your favorite character and why?

SOPHIE: Well, it’s a dual narrative between Luna and Fowler, so they share my love equally. Fowler is a terse, sexy badass archer – so there’s that to love. Luna is a strong and resilient female who happens to be blind but handles herself like a pro in a world of darkness – rock on girl-power! Gotta love her, too.

GLITTER: Who was your first book boyfriend?

SOPHIE: My earliest book boyfriend would have to be Prince Phillip in the Little Golden Book version of Sleeping Beauty that my father read to me. Swinging that sword and battling a killer forest and an evil witch that turned into a dragon? Ultimate badass.

GLITTER: What genre do you prefer writing?

SOPHIE: I can’t choose! That’s why I write so many across the board. Really, I just follow the story I want to write … and wherever it falls, that’s the genre.

GLITTER: Is it true that you grew up on a pecan ranch?

SOPHIE: I did grow up with an orchard in my back yard. Only now do I recognize that this is kind of unique. It was just my norm …. standing on the back deck every day and staring out at a valley of 1,500 trees in perfect rows. Now that I no longer I have that, I can appreciate how truly beautiful it was.

GLITTER: What is your favorite true-crime or reality show and do you ever get plot points from watching that show?

SOPHIE: Oh, tough one! I like Cold Case Files and 48 Hours…. hm, I Shouldn’t Be Alive. I don’t know if I get plot points as much as inspiration from the survivors as they relate their stories. Talk about compelling characters!

GLITTER: If you could have any job in your next life, what job would it be?

SOPHIE: Could I ask to be reborn with a great voice? I’d love to sing and not sound like a drowning cat. I admire those who can sing. Much like with writing, I appreciate how a beautiful song/voice can transport people on an emotional journey.

GLITTER: What one piece of advice could you give any teen going through difficult times now?

SOPHIE: As a teen I escaped into books … then eventually started writing my own. Books were my friends. They provided solace and that solace made me stronger. I would encourage any teen who is going through something difficult to find something that offers them similar solace. Whether it’s books, sports, art … something that belongs to them and gives them comfort and strength. When you have that “something special” that belongs to you, life (and hard times) become bearable.

GLITTER: What are you currently working on right now?

SOPHIE: Right now I’m finishing up the revisions for the sequel to Reign of Shadows…title to be announced soon.  I love it SO hard! Can’t wait to share.
