GLITTER: For those who haven’t read your book yet, how would you describe Thief of Lies?

BRENDA: Gia’s trip to a Boston library turns perilous when she accidentally jumps through a gateway book linking the world’s great libraries and discovers a hidden world filled with magic and danger.

GLITTER: How much of our current world did you put into your novel?

BRENDA: The story takes place in about equal parts of the Mystik world and ours. In our world, Gia and company are mostly in Boston and within some of the most beautiful libraries across the globe.

GLITTER: Who was your favorite character to write in Thief of Lies?

BRENDA: This is a hard question. As writers, we tend to love all our characters. If I must choose, I’d have to say Gia. I drew from some very special girls in my own life to create her. I spent so much time in her head that I feel like I know her better than I know some of my close friends.

GLITTER: Is it part of a series? Please say yes!

BRENDA: Yes, it is! Thief of Lies is the first book in the Library Jumpers Series. I’m excited for the next two books. There will be more libraries and more of the Mystik world.

GLITTER: How much research went into writing Thief of Lies?

BRENDA: There was a lot of research for the libraries in Thief of Lies. I’ve been to Boston many times, so I drew from my time there. I did look up a few things to refresh my memory about the city. The Mystik world didn’t require research, just a lot of thought and my imagination.

GLITTER: If you could live in any fantasy or book world, which book would it be and why?

BRENDA: There are so many I would want to choose. Because of my love of chocolate, I’m tempted to say the factory in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I’m not sure that’s a world, is it? So I would definitely pick Harry Potter’s world of magic. After the death of Voldemort, that is. I desperately want to go to the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Orlando to make that dream come true.

GLITTER: Did you have a favorite book boyfriend growing up?

BRENDA: I have so many book boyfriends in my past. I’m not sure how I’d pick just one. It’s like trying to pick a favorite child or something. I will say, after reading The Outsiders in school, I was obsessed with Ponyboy for months. When I finished the book, I watched the movie repeatedly. I totally like the greaser types. Bad boys with a hidden softer side are my Kryptonite.

GLITTER: What book are you currently reading?

BRENDA: I’m reading Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and it is SO good. Unfortunately, my reading time right now is suffering. I hope to take a day off and just read.

GLITTER: What are you currently working on?

BRENDA: I’m working on the second book in my Fated Series, Cursing Fate, which is a story full of romance, cursed tarot cards, and revenge. And I can’t wait to share it with readers.

ABOUT BRENDA DRAKE: Brenda Drake, the youngest of three children, grew up an Air Force brat and the continual new kid at schooluntil her family settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Brenda’s fondest memories growing up is of her eccentric, Irish grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for storytelling. So it was only fitting that she would choose to write young adult and middle grade novels with a bend toward the fantastical. When Brenda’s not writing or doing the social media thing, she’s haunting libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops or reading someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).
