Glitter girls, you have pressing questions for your favorite authors and we have their answers. Welcome to our weekly segment, Author Crush Fridays.
We love asking questions and we love the answers from some of our favorite authors. Today we’re talking to April Genevieve Tucholke, author of Slasher Girls and Monster Boys (August 18, 2015; Dial Books). Thank you for talking to us today, April! We’re honored!
GLITTER: How would you describe the stories in this collection?
APRIL: Gripping. Bloody. Imaginative. Twisted. Beautiful.
GLITTER: How did you come up with the theme for Slasher Girls and Monster Boys?
APRIL: I’d been talking with a few of the other contributors about classic monster movies and slasher films and it arose out of this conversation, I think.
GLITTER: If you could describe Slasher Girls and Monster Boys in only 160 characters, how would you describe it?
APRIL: This anthology will gut you. In a good way.
GLITTER: What bestselling authors are in this collection?
APRIL: Leigh Bardugo, Marie Lu, Danielle Paige, A. G. Howard, Carrie Ryan . . .
GLITTER: What is your favorite story in this collection and why?
APRIL: I loved every one of the stories. Truly.
GLITTER: Who inspires you?
APRIL: Guillermo del Toro. Susanna Clarke. Jacky Faber. Tyrion. Lagertha. Neil deGrasse Tyson.
GLITTER: What is one thing that fans might not know about you?
APRIL: I’m a total chicken when it comes to horror films—that clapping scene in The Conjuring? Still haven’t recovered.
GLITTER: What are you currently working on?
APRIL: I have a Young Adult book coming out early next year called Wink Poppy Midnight. It’s a story about fairy tales and heroes and twists and turns and liars. In my spare time, I’m also working on a dark middle grade book, and a gritty YA fantasy.
