Interview with Mahogany LOX
Mahogany LOX showcases her playful personality and vocal chops with the premiere of her debut single “Boom.” The single was produced by her older brother 8ky6lu (one half of party rock duo, LMFAO). Her uncle, Redfoo, is the other half of LMFAO and her other uncle is Marvin Gaye. It’s safe to say that music runs in this family.“Boom” comes fresh off the heels of her supporting female powerhouse group Fifth Harmony on The Reflection Tour, which covered 22 US cities earlier this year. When she’s not performing or connecting with her devout following of LOXSmiths, she expresses herself through acting and fashion.
GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?
MAHOGANY: 90’s pop with a splash of Hip/Hop and a sprinkle of glitter.
GLITTER: Do you play any instruments?
MAHOGANY: I play ukulele, a little bit of piano, guitar, and the cup, lol.
GLITTER: Where do you find your inspiration?
MAHOGANY: The world. Everything is so inspiring but what inspires me the most are the LOXSmiths. They make me so happy and all I want to do is make them proud.
GLITTER: What can you tell us about your single, “Boom”?
MAHOGANY: “Boom” was so much fun to make. It started from my old lyric book. I was going through it looking for something to share with my brother, Sky, and I saw “everything happens for a reason and the reason is you” and I read it to him and he liked it… then BOOM… it happened.
GLITTER: Are you working on an album right now?
MAHOGANY: Yes!! I can’t wait to get back in the studio and finish up some things!
GLITTER: Do you ever seek advice from your brother who is in LMFAO?
MAHOGANY: Absolutely, all the time. I always ask for his opinion and help. He’s such a brilliant and talented person that I really appreciate any help I get from him.
GLITTER: Besides your brother, do you have any other relatives in the business?
MAHOGANY: Yeah! My Uncle Redfoo, the other part of the LMFAO duo, my Uncle Kennedy, aka Rockwell, who sang “Somebody’s Watching Me,” my Uncle Marvin Gaye, and my grandpa, Berry Gordy.
GLITTER: If you weren’t singing, what else would you be doing for a living?
MAHOGANY: DJing, acting, and working with the protection of animals in some way.
GLITTER: Do you have any celebrity crushes?
MAHOGANY: Hmmm………….
GLITTER: Is there something about you fans would be surprised to know?
MAHOGANY: I love playing sports and I used to wanna play basketball professionally!
GLITTER: Best advice you were ever given?
MAHOGANY: “Everything happens for a reason.”
GLITTER: Is there someone you’d like to work with that you haven’t worked with already?
MAHOGANY: Yes… I have lists! I’d love to work with Mariah Carey, LMFAO, Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera for starters.
GLITTER: What is one summer trend you think everyone should be following?
MAHOGANY: Hmmm… Glitter, lots of glitter.
GLITTER: If you could work with any fashion designer, who would it be and why?
MAHOGANY: Betsey Johnson. She has always been one of my top favs.
