Interview with Landry Bender

Landry Bender-2389

Landry Bender is already a seasoned actress having starred in the film The Sitter, opposite Jonah Hill and as a series regular on Disney XD’s Crash and Bernstein. This summer, she can be seen in her own Disney Channel series, Best Friends Whenever. Landry recently sat down with Glitter to talk about her new Disney Channel series, how she got into acting, her favorite role so far, her hidden talents, and her plans for the summer. PS, we love her sense of humor! Read on to find out more about this rising starlet.

GLITTER: How did you get into acting?

LANDRY: By going to see Annie with my mom while it was out on tour! I was fascinated by the overall production and eventually started plays at my local community theatre. I never thought I’d be in the position I am today but it’s been an awesome ride.

GLITTER: What has been your favorite guest role so far and why?

LANDRY: I’m going to guest star this summer for the first time on another Disney series.  I’m really excited.  Can’t give away the details yet, but you’ll get to see the episode later this fall.

GLITTER: What can you tell us about the upcoming Disney series, Best Friends Whenever? When does it premiere?

LANDRY: It’s a buddy comedy about two teenage girls named Cyd and Shelby who get struck with the power to time travel. The time travel and special effects are fun but the real heart of the show is the relationships.  Cyd and Shelby have two guy friends, Barry and Naldo; who are as different as Cyd and Shelby but the bond is there.  We hope kids can see their own high school friendships in what we are building with the show. The show premieres June 26th right after Teen Beach 2 on Disney Channel.

GLITTER: Who do you play?

LANDRY: I play Cyd on the show! She’s a major tomboy, a little lazy at times; because of her home life she’s a little rough around the edges but she has a good heart. Cyd is usually the reason they get into trouble and doesn’t always use the time travel skills for good but she is learning to manage their powers. Despite how very different they are, she loves Shelby.

GLITTER: Are you like your character in any way?

LANDRY: I’m very sarcastic.  So is Cyd.  I do love how carefree and easy going she is and wish I had more of that.  From my “what I wear every day,” “to the show,” “to my school work” – I’m a planner.  Cyd couldn’t care less about those things and I do admire how she gets through life with so little structure.

GLITTER: What was it like to act alongside Jonah Hill in The Sitter

LANDRY: It has been one of the highlights of this little life I’ve had, for sure.  I was only ten when we shot it. He taught me so much about how to act on set and what this business is all about.  To be able to have that kind of experience at such a young age was super awesome.

GLITTER: What is your favorite outdoor activity?

LANDRY: Probably hiking. It’s a really fun way to get exercise and there are so many cool trails in Los Angeles.  I try to go out and explore them as much as I can.

GLITTER: What advice do you have for teens who are too afraid to follow their dreams for fear of rejection?

LANDRY: As hard as rejection can be, anything that you truly love and is THAT important to you, you’ll make it a point to do anything you can to persist and keep fighting for what you want. Life is short and if you really want something – why not go for it?

GLITTER: Do you have any hidden talents?

LANDRY: I play guitar! I don’t know about posting any covers or anything… I can be a bit of a perfectionist (laughs), we’ll see.

GLITTER: Secret crush?

LANDRY: Have you looked up the definition of a secret?

GLITTER: What is your definition of self-love?

LANDRY: I always go with the expression that you simply “can’t love others unless you love yourself” and as overused as it is it’s SO true and SO important to remember. Of course we’re all insecure and we all see our flaws… We’re human, that’s the way it is. But it’s learning to except them and be confident with yourself that’s the key.

GLITTER: Do you have any plans for the summer?

LANDRY: We are shooting the show all summer long but that’s a good thing. When I tell people that I probably won’t have a summer vacation they sometimes feel bad for me, but I love my work so much and goofing around on the lot all summer with the cast will actually be a blast.
