Interview with Jordyn Jones
Jordyn Jones is known for winning first place in a Ryan Seacrest cover contest of “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea. She began dancing at the age of two and has since performed on the biggest stages including MTV Video Music Awards, Kid’s Choice Awards, Dancing with the Stars, and X-Factor. After starring on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition for Lifetime, Jordyn has become a social media tour de force with 1 Million followers on Instagram and over 50 Million views on YouTube. Jordyn recently sat down with Glitter to talk about her sound, her musical influences, her new song, “I’m Dappin,” and when her debut album will be out.
GLITTER: How would you describe your sound?
JORDYN: My sound is a mix of hip-hop and pop. Definitely catchy with a little edge!
GLITTER: Do you have any musical influences and play any instruments?
JORDYN: My influences are Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. I’m starting to learn how to play the piano.
GLITTER: How did you feel when you found out you’d be opening up for Demi Lovato in New York and touring across the country this year?
JORDYN: I was so excited! When my manager called me, I didn’t believe him at first. I’m such a big fan of Demi’s. Touring is really fun, I love performing and meeting my fans in person.
GLITTER: When will we be able to listen to your first single, “I’m Dappin”? What’s the song about?
JORDYN: The lyric video for “I’m Dappin” drops July 15, and you’ll be able to buy the song on iTunes on July 3 when the actual music video comes out. The song is about a new dance called “Dappin” which stands for “dancin” and “snappin,” and it features me rapping!
GLITTER: When will your debut album be out?
JORDYN: We are recording different singles for now and adding new songs on my tour. I think we’ll have an album by early next year.
GLITTER: Where do you find your inspiration?
JORDYN: I find my inspiration from anything that makes me happy… Life is too short to not be doing what you love.
GLITTER: Where are a few places that people might have heard your music at?
JORDYN: Mainly my YouTube channel. A lot of my fans also perform my music at their talent shows and dance conventions, so cool!
GLITTER: When did you first start performing professionally?
JORDYN: I was two-years-old, my mom put me in baton twirling and I started to compete right away.
GLITTER: Is there something about you fans would be surprised to know?
JORDYN: I’m obsessed with Taco Bell freezes & Chipotle!
GLITTER: We also love your YouTube channel. What’s the best beauty advice you can give a novice?
JORDYN: Always carry an emergency lip gloss with you because you never know when you’ll need it.
GLITTER: Is there someone you’d like to work with that you haven’t worked with already?
JORDYN: Either Beyoncé or Iggy.
GLITTER: Any projects you can tell us about that you’re working on next?
JORDYN: I’ll be performing at VidCon, I’m recording a new song for Old Navy, and I’m going to keep doing music videos for AwesomenessTV & DreamWorks. I also recording a lot of new original songs so stay tuned, my next single is called “Bruh!”
